TWO WALTON GOLDS AT INTER-REGIONAL CHAMPS 2015

Walton had a great Inter-Regional Regatta, helping the Thames – London Team to 2nd place overall out of the 12 British Regions. In very windy and rough conditions (it’s Nottingham – what did we expect??) Ben Harris recovered from a very difficult semi to show his rising potential by comfortably winning the J15 single sculls B final.
Next up was the J15 coxed four. Oliver Lucas, Ed Wilkinson, Matthew Sargent and George Wedlake, coxed by Myles Anderson comfortably won their semi. They then led the final from the first few strokes, and despite coming under pressure in the last 100m, held on to record our region’s first gold medal of the regatta. This crew won the quads last year so hold the very rare honour of being champions in both sculling and sweep.

Finally the J14 double of Tom Philpott and Ardan Suphi were experiencing their first multi-lane regatta, and did so with some style. They won their semi, and then won the final by an even greater margin of clear water, so now have their sights set on the National Schools Regatta next month.
