Former Walton juniors Matt Heywood (also a Hon Life member), Rory Harris and Richard Hawes all won medals at Henley Royal Regatta. Matt and Rory each won the top medals in their boat type: Matt’s Brookes/Taurus crew won the Grand, beating Washington University who had a too-close encounter with the booms near the Barrier. Rory Harris’ Leander quad beat a German national squad crew to win the Queen Mother Cup.
Also on the podium was Richard Hawes, who stroked the Brookes four that won the Prince Albert Trophy and had the honour of having their medals presented by Prince Albert of Monaco in person. Richard is now straight into GB trials for the U23 world champs and we wish him the best of luck.
Congratulations to all of them and to proud dads Steve and Nick, both active Masters members.
