World Cup and GB trials

World Cup and GB trials

The international rowing season started last weekend, with the first World Cup event in Varese, Italy. Hon Life member Morgan Bolding was in the eight, coached by Steve Trapmore, which comfortably beat the Netherlands and Germany and looks forward to taking on the Aussies, Canadians and Americans later in the season leading up to the Olympics.

The non-Olympic GB trials were held at Caversham on the same weekend; several former Walton juniors did very well, including Isy Hawes who won the B final of womens’ pairs.  Matt Heywood was third overall in men’s pairs, while Richard Hawes was tenth overall, but also the third U23, putting him in a very strong position for U23 GB selection.  Rory Harris was disappointed to come fourth in the singles.
