Lionel Everington passed away peacefully last Monday after a short illness. He had been a Walton member for over 50 years rowing for the club at Henley and then being Captain and President during the Club’s resurgence in the 80’s and 90’s. He is more recently remembered for his coaching of many successful crews being a hard but always positive and encouraging task master with a keen eye for technique as well as his prowess on the ergo winning many medals at indoor championships. He had limitless passion for the sport of rowing.
The funeral will take place at 3:30pm on Friday 5th May at Woking Crematorium followed by drinks and sandwiches to remember Lionel from 4:30 to 6:30pm at The Sands at Bleak House, Chertsey Road, Woking, GU21 5NL which is on the A320 between the Six Cross Roads and McLarens. I expect some of us will end up back at the Club after that. All Welcome.
