Great results from Junior Brit Champs

The junior squad had one of their most successful National Championships, winning five medals on the very windy Nottingham course. There were two silver medals, three bronze, two other A final places and two B finals. Silver for the junior 4- (Aidan, James C, Ethan and Harry), who then teamed up with Patrick, James M and two athletes from TSS for a scratch junior eight which had an amazing race all the way down the course and were just pipped for Gold by quarter of a length. Bronze for the girls’ J16 pair (Lola and Elysia), the boys’ coxed four (Gianluca/Archie/Joe/Toby R c Toby K), and Richard who improved in every round to take a brilliant medal with a last 20-stroke sprint from a massive field of J15 scullers! A finals also for Millie, Hannah, Alex and Amy who came 5th in WJ18 4- and for Gianluca and Toby who just missed out on a second medal, coming 4th in the J16 pair. Alex and Amy also rowed really well in their pair to win their B-fnal by a massive margin.

Meanwhile the younger juniors raced at Molesey; a three-quarters-Walton final in J14 doubles was won by Ciaran and a Kingston sculler, who beat Harry and Toby D by a canvas; but in the semi-finals of the J14 singles Harry just pipped Ciaran, only to go out to a visiting German sculler in the final. Several Walton crews were deliberately racing up but all produced very good results and gained invaluable racing experience; they also enjoyed the scull down and back.
