GB QUAD GOLD FOR SAM PDF Print E-mail

Sam Knight's Great Britain quad scull won a fantastic gold medal at the Coupe de Jeunesse at Hazewinkle, Belgium last week-end. Saturday showed that Hungary, Poland, Netherlands and France as well as GB were all within a length of each other in speed, but in Sunday's final, Sam's crew sculled a brilliant race to win the gold in the very fast time of 6.08.82, just 0.15 secs ahead of Poland in silver.

Attention now turns to the Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic where Walton's Angus Groom goes for GB and his crew have already won their heat to progress to Saturday's semi-finals.

Best of luck from the whole club Angus!

WORLD BRONZE FOR MATT

Congratulations to Matt Tarrant, who was in the three seat of the GB eight that won the Bronze medal at the World U23 Championships in Belarus this week. The first three crews pulled away from the field, and in a close finish, Germany got the gold, and USA the silver, just ahead of GB. This medal adds to Matt's silver from the Junior Worlds in 2008, and he is hoping to make the breakthrough to the Senior Team in the next few years to complete the set!

3 MORE GB REPRESENTATIVES

Sam Knight is competing in the GB quad at the Coupe de Jeunesse in Belgium this week-end.

Angus Groom is in the Junior Worlds quad, and will be competing in Racice, Czech Republic the following week.

Nick de Cata is coaching the Junior Worlds boys coxed four too.

Best of luck to all of them, from everyone at Walton RC

This week we have been granted our new licence to sell alcohol so we are free to open the bar as normal. Until we have completed the new building project what we have on offer will be limited but we intend to open the bar on Sunday lunchtimes and Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Members should not attempt to serve themselves without the permission of the Bar Steward and should leave the Clubroom as tidy as possible after use.
