We would like to thank all those who timed , marshalled , umpired , tided up, provided safety cover, competed and a undertook a myriad of other jobs which meant we could hold an event atall this year.
The event did not go without a hitch as those competing in the first division will know. With just a few boats started ,racing had to be halted as the Timing Start Team could not see the crew numbers , the solution took 20minutes to resolve and meant a very cold spell for everyone on the water. In fact the 1st Division was within 1 minute of being rowed without timing and we can only apologise to those who suffered in the cold, as a result all other divisions ran with small delays.
There were a huge number of crew alterations on the day ,due to the relocation of the event, and the traffic between registration and Timing Finish has worn a groove in the grass.
The Umpires only awarded one 5 second penalty on the day to a crew who tried to row down lane 0 , the Umpires deemed that this was to gain an unfair advantage from slightly better water conditions.
As we were under time restrictions to clear the Boathouse the presentations had to be cancelled but we will find a way of getting pots to all those concerned.
Again many thanks to all those who helped and supported the event, of course we look forward to seeing everybody in a massive entry on our normal course next year.
NEW EVENT
I am looking for feed back from clubs and individuals about a possible new event so I can gauge the support it may receive.
The course would be a circular 9km head race based on the our section of the Thames at Walton /Weybridge/Shepperton.
The course would include a relatively straight section of 2km, a 4km section including straight parts and bends , a final section of 3km mainly straight (the existing Walton Small Boats Course)
I am hoping that an inaugural event would attract some top scullers.
