In an effort to increase his winter mileage club member Richard Smallman-Smith has gone to the unusual lengths of rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. Even more unusually his wife Helena is in the crew as well. Along with 17 other crews they have entered The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2011, which is scheduled to start on Sunday, 4th December 2011 just outside the harbour of San Sebastian de La Gomera, a small island just west of Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
The finish is just outside Port St Charles, Barbados, some 2,549 nautical miles away as the petrel flies. They are rowing a big cat not a bird so the actual route will be up to 1,000nm longer, as they will initially head south to pick up the trade winds, and they are also likely be blown backwards from time to time.
They are doing so in aid of St Mungo's and the Huntington's Disease-Association. To visit their website and follow their progress click here

FOUR WINS AT FOURS HEADS! |
The Junior Quad of Richard Clarke and Oli Knight in a composite with Westminster took top honours at the Fours Head on Saturday and our other junior quad was 4th, showing great strength in depth. Walton's Elite Lightweights started an incredible 3rd on the river, and only Leander's second boat got past them as they finished 5th in their division. That gave us two boats in the top 25, firmly putting Walton in the Premier League with Leander, London, Molesey, Scullers and Imperial. The girls junior quad came 10th.
In the Masters Fours Head, we had 3 wins. The D quad won their division by nearly a minute, but the coxless four agonisingly lost out by just over 1 second to a very good Quintin crew. The mixed quad of Steve Heywood, Carol Cornell, Mike Bishop and Ali Jackson stormed through the field, overtaking many of the men's crews to win their division. It was a first time coxing on the Tideway for Izzy Fish, but she coped well with the rough conditions to steer her crew of Anna Lass, Megan Addis, Nicola Jordan and Katherine Tonks to a win in Novice quads too. The men's Novice quad came 2nd in their class.

In excellent conditions on our home reach Walton had an astonishingly successful day at the the Weybridge Silver having no less than 18 category wins and 8 second places. These included fastest womens and junior girls boats overall in both singles and doubles and fastest overall in mens and junior boys doubles. As well as this over a dozen new members who leant to row at our beginners courses this summer had their first taste of competition.
There are also photos of most of the club crews that raced in divs 1 to 3 in the gallery (in reverse order to that which people raced).

Top Club at Pairs Head 2011 (new photo) |
Walton had an incredible seven wins at the Pairs Head. Top of the pile were Lightweight winners Sam Lee-Gill and Sam Wilson who came 8th overall. The club dominated at junior level, winning the doubles with Oli Knight and James Rudkin; the pairs with Morgan Bolding and Elliot Tarrant; and the women's doubles with Katy Denham and Hannah Paremain. The older generation were just as convincing, with Richard Thiemann and Mike Everington jointly winning MasD pairs, Neil West and Glyn Groom winning MasD doubles, and Ali Jackson and Steve Heywood winning mixed masters doubles too. All our other entries came in the top few in their divisions to record Walton's best ever results in this event.

TWO GOLDS AND A BRONZE AT HOME INTERNATIONALS (More photos added) |
Sams Knight and Wilson won a bronze in Senior double sculls at Strathclyde Park in Scotland at the week-end and Annie Withers finished her junior career on a high, winning the girls eight gold medal.
The best performance of the regatta came from our J16's Callum Gathercole and Sam Mottram, racing in the J18 doubles event. They put in a fantastic race, trailing just behind the Irish through the middle of the race, then putting in a great finish to win by 3 feet. Their time of 6:43.25 is absolutely stunning, and as far as we are aware is the fastest ever recorded in the UK by a J16 double.

FINAL FLOURISH AT BURWAY 2011 |
Five more wins saw Walton's regatta season rounded-off in style at Burway. The day started slowly with only the Masters quad and the J15 double of Laurence Fain and Scott Atkinson having won any silverware in the first and second divisions. We did have lots of promising results from the youngsters though with Rory Harris only missing out by one length, and Edward Wilkinson being pipped by 2 feet in his J11 singles final.
But then we had three wins in the last few races of the day to finish the regatta season on a high! The "Dads" four of Andy Tomalin, Matt Gaywood, Neil West (subbing in for Ian Tarrant who was in Amsterdam watching son Matt win a World u23 Bronze medal in the eight!) and Peter Knight, coxed by another one of the sons, Harry Gaywood, pulled comfortably away from Maidenhead to win their final. Then Sophie Thean stormed past her opposition to win girls J15 singles, and Natalie Dailey and Katie Dent were very impressive in winning WJ16 doubles.

MEDALS GALORE AT BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS |
Walton again proved the club to be at if you want to race and win at top level. Elliot and Morgan got the ball rolling with a very mature race, steadily coming through the early leaders to record a clear victory in J16 doubles.
In the boys coxless fours, Sam Mottram and Callum had to jump out of their double after winning their repechage and row straight back to the start with Morgan and Elliot. They were rowing well in the pack during the race at 500m when the umpire chose to abandon it when two other crews clashed! So back to the start again. This time they went straight into the lead to avoid the risk of clashes and steadily pulled away to claim a very impressive win - proving that good scullers can always move a sweep boat!
A third gold medal came when Sam and Callum got back in their double scull and they trounced much older, heavier and stronger opposition to comfortably win Junior doubles into a very strong headwind.
Sam Knight and Sam Wilson struggled in their heat of Open double sculls as a junior and a lightweight, but put in two stunning performances in their repechage and final to claim a well deserved bronze medal.
>p>Sam Knight then jumped in a composite quad straight after to claim another bronze in junior quads.
Our alumni also did us proud as both Vicky Tomalin and Lydia Jackson were in the women's eight that won gold, and Angus Groom claimed a Senior Open singles bronze at the age of 19! All three of them have also been selected for the GB Universities team to go to the European Univeristies Champs in Moscow in August.

ANOTHER FIVE SELECTED FOR ENGLAND TEAM |
Superb performances at the British Championships have led to Walton providing both the senior and junior double sculls for the Home International Regatta at Strathclyde Park on 24th July. Sam Knight & Sam Wilson are the Senior Open-weight double - very impressive for a junior and a light-weight! Sam Mottram and Callum Gathercole are equally impressive, getting selected for J18, when they are both still J16.
Annie Withers is also selected in the girls eight after her performances at the national trials. Best of luck in Scotland from everyone at Walton!
OLI & HARRY GET SELECTED FOR GB |
Following their fantastic performance in the Henley final, Harry Lonergan and Oliver Knight had to go straight into GB Junior trials. After 5 gruelling days of testing and seat-racing, both got selected for the Great Britain Under 18 Team to go to the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Linz, Austria at the end of July. This is an incredible achievement as Harry is still J16 and Oli is J15. Harry is stroking the double scull, and Oli is stroking (and steering) the quad. Nick de Cata was also selected as coach and both crews are currently training out of Walton until they leave for Austria on Sunday 24th. We wish all of them the best of luck.

ELLIOT AND MORGAN WIN GB-FRANCE MATCH |
After their convincing win at the GB trials, our J16 double scull went to the GB-France match full of confidence. Coach Ken Roberts main concern was the possibility of rough water on the Docklands Regatta course affecting their speed. However, race day saw near-perfect conditions and the boys stamped their authority on the race from the start and never looked back, recording a comfortable victory in their first international race. Their victory also helped the GB team win the overall match by 7 races to 6.
This very talented crew completed a rare "triple" this week by adding the British Championship title to their wins at National Schools and GB-France.

The club has has had its best Henley for many years with three crews in the Regatta proper. The ‘A’ Fawley quad of Sam and Oli, Harry and Elliot was selected, but the ‘B’ crew of Callum, Andrew, Morgan and Sam Mottram (all J16s) had to beat 60 other quads just to qualify! They put up a very mature performance but were beaten by Molesey on Thursday.
Captain Neil West and his son Stuart also had to qualify for the Silver Goblets, and had a tight race against a Bris-tol Ariel crew on Thursday, never really getting clear wa-ter. But on Friday they came up against GB pair Reed and Hodge, who beat the Barrier record.
The ‘A’ Fawley crew won fairly comfortably on Friday (having had a bye through the first round), but followed this up with two excellent races on Saturday against old rivals Westminster and Wm Borlase; the semi-final saw both crews winding the rating up into the 40s as they approached the line, with Walton winning by half a length. On Sunday, however, they were outgunned by a powerful and very mature Sydney Rowing Club quad. It was nonetheless a remarkable achievement for a crew including two sixteen-year-olds and one fifteen-year-old.
Morgan Bolding and Elliot Tarrant have been selected as the J16 double for the Anglo-French match next Sunday (July 10th) at Docklands—congratulations to them.

There will be an end of season party and barbeque at the boathouse on Saturday 23rd July starting at 1:00 pm
All welcome |

A very hot and humid day at Egham saw two wins for the boys and two for the girls. Ross Henderson, Will Johnston, Niall O’Callaghan and Jordan Piddlesden, coxed by May Byworth won J14B quads, while James Williamson worked his way through four rounds to win the J14 singles quite convincingly. Katy and Nina Giambrone,Tilly Catlin, Megan Houska, and Millie Wills won the WJ14 event, while Katie Giambrone had to beat clubmate Tilly Catlin to win the final of WJ13 singles.
Several other Walton crews put in excellent performances and we had three verdicts of less than a length against us - they will be back in action at Kingston a couple of weeks’ time to seek revenge …

FOUR MEDALS AT NATIONAL SCHOOLS |
Walton won 4 medals at a very rough and windy Nottingham, and were cruelly denied a 5th when the all-conquering J16 quad sank beneath the waves while leading their race! The Knight brothers took silver in Championship Doubles and then repeated that in Championship Quads with Harry Lonergan and Callum Gathercole. Over the shortened 1000m course on Sunday, Elliot Tarrant and Morgan Bolding dominated the J16 doubles event to take a well-deserved gold medal. Showing lots of promise for the future, Natalie Dailey and Hannah Paremain took bronze in J16 pairs after only a very short time together in this boat. |

A great day was had by the record entry at Walton and Weybridge Regatta in pleasant if breezy conditions. Walton Rowing Club had a good day with eight wins including three in a quick succession in the afternoon. In the morning section our junior scullers showed they can row as well winning IM1 4-, the masters E 4x won afetr three races and the two halves of our girls J13 quad contested the WJ13 2x final. In the afternoon we won masters 4-, the girls J13 4x continued their winning run, Callum and Sam won J16 2x, Elliot and Alistair won IM3 2x and Glyn and Neil won masters 2x.

Seven wins at Marlow Spring and four at Junior Interregional (PHOTOS ADDED) |
Our 11 crews racing at Marlow produced an amazing 7 wins including 3 in a row from the WJ17 double (Holly Jones & Sam Ball), WJ16's (Holly Stead & Hannah Paremain) and WJ15's (Sophie Thean & Katie Dent).
The girls J13 quad of Nina & Katie Giambrone, Megan Houska and Tilly Catlin, coxed by Millie Wills maintained their unbeaten run this year with a convincing win.
In the boys J14 double, Alexi Buckingham steered a brilliant course with Ross Jones and timed their finishing push to perfection as they came from a length down in the last 200m to win by a canvas!
Both Sam Wilson, racing his single today, and the Masters double will be targeting National medals later in the season and won very comfortably here.

Gary Dowzall has a large number of photos from Marlow Spring online, those of particular interest are 3, 6, 18, 22, 50 (not WRC), 77, 79, 88, 96, 105, 114, 145, 177, 183, 204 Click here
JUNIOR QUAD WIN WALLINGFORD
The junior quad of Sam Knight, Harry Lonergan, Elliot Tarrant and Oliver Knight covincingly won their event at Wallingford Regatta, beating Leander: Zimbabwe's national crew; and Borlase (winners of the Natuonal Junior Sculling Head along the way. Their time would have put them well up in Elite quads too.
The J16 quad were denied their chance of winning too, when the afternoon events were cancelled due to high winds.
FOUR GOLDS AT JUNIOR INTER-REGIONAL CHAMPS
Our depth at boys J16 level is incredible, and bodes well for the next two years at junior level. Callum, Harry, Elliot and Andy comfortably won the National Junior Sculling Head. Then joined by Oli Knight and Sam Mottram the squad won an amazing four gold medals at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at Nottingham: J16 quads, doubles and singles and J15 singles!
The girls J15 double of Katie Dent and Sophie Thean had a brilliant debut race to miss out on an Inter-regionals medal in a photofinish. James Williamson also just missed a medal in his first championship race in the J14 single, and the girls J16 double of Holly and Natalie came 6th.
Overall, the Walton crews put in a fantastic set of performances which helped the Thames Downriver team win the overall boys trophy, while the girls came third out of the 12 British regions.

Great Results at Fours Head 2010 |
Two crews in the top 30 out of over 500 entries is an amazing achievement, and puts Walton in the company of Leander, London, Imperial College, Tideway Scullers, Oxford University, Durham University and Molesey! The junior quad of Samual Knight, Harry Lonergan, Elliot Tarrant and Oliver Knight were an amazing 18th overall, despite a slower boat crashing into them during the race. The lightweight quad of Neil West, Josh Wedlake, Sam Wilson and Sam Lee-Gill came 29th overall. The girls quad of Julia Clarke, Annie Withers, Sam Ball and Hannah Traylen were seventh in their class in 21.20.
In the Veterans Fours Head, the C quad were 4th overall and the composite women's C quad were second in their event. The Novice Masters in their first fours race got the best result, winning their class in a time of 22.15

TEAM TRITON'S WORLD RECORD ATLANTIC ROW ATTEMPT |
Dear friend,
Next month I am hoping to lead a team of six in an attempt to break the World Record for the fastest ever recorded row across the Atlantic Ocean: the current record stands at 33 days 7hours and we are hoping to make the 5,200km crossing from the Canaries to Barbados in under a month. Our boat is called 'Triton' and she is a lightweight purpose-built fast ocean racing machine. We have three sculling positions and our sculls/oars will never stop moving for the entire month - each crew member will scull for 2 hours on followed by two hours off for the whole voyage. You will be able to monitor our progress by following the regular update of the satellite tracker on our website.
We are hoping to raise a significant amount of money for our charity 'Combat Stress' - please consider whether you can afford to donate a few pounds to this very worthy cause. You can donate via our team website or via our justgiving webpage or you can send me a cheque [made out to 'Combat Stress' and sent to: 15 Wilton Crescent, London, SW19 3QY].
Many thanks in anticipation,
David Hosking

WINS AT PAIRS HEAD AND SILVER SCULLS |
Walton had two wins at the Pairs Head, with Harry Lonergan and Elliot Tarrant beating their club-mates Callum Gathercole and Oli Knight by 1 sec to record a stunning one-two in J16 doubles, twenty seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Chris Leonard and James Brown had a storming row to win masters pairs and come third fastest pair overall! Holly Jones and Annie Withers also had a fantastic row to come second in Womens Junior pairs.
Sam Knight and Sam Wilson were our fastest boat, coming tenth overall, out of nearly 500 crews, and just missing their class win by less than a second!
The Silver Sculls on home water saw a huge contingent from Walton take up the challenge. They were rewarded with 10 wins. The older girls group dominated with Holly Jones and Sam Ball being the fastest womens double overall, and winning WJ17, with Sam also winning her single. Annie Withers repeated that feat in WJ18 singles, and taking the doubles title with Julia Clarke. Josh Wedlake was another double winner, taking IM2 singles and doubles with Neil West, who also took the Masters doubles title with Glyn Groom. Oli Knight won J15 singles, coming 11th overall and Dave Clarke won Masters E.
Callum Gathercole and Elliot Tarrant continued their form from the Pairs Head, and despite starting at the back of the entire field, managed to weave their way through to set the 5th fastest time of the day and win J16.
Special mention should go to the members of the boys and girls beginners groups, many of whom were racing for the first time. Particularly impressive were Megan Houska and Tilly Catlin in girls J13 doubles who were only ten seconds off winning their class, in their first race together.

TOP CLUB AT BOSTON MARATHON (Photos addad) |
Twenty nine Walton members completed all 50km of the Boston Marathon. Despite the rain, wind and weed slowing things down, Walton had four crews in the top 12 out of 240 starters, and set 4 new course records. The Senior quad led the way with the overall win in a time of 3.19.04. The mixed octuple of Naomi Allberry, Nick De Cata, Holly Stead, Hannah Paremain, Natalie Dailey, Elliot Tarrant, Nick Clarke, Rupert Adams and Ross Jones came 7th overall in 3.48.58. Possibly the most impressive performance of the day was the young quad of Callum Gathercole, Ali Douglass, Harry Gaywood and Andrew Bedford who not only won the older J17 category, but set a new J17 record of 3.49.45 and came 10th overall.
Sam Wilson sculled a brilliant race to set a new IM3 record of 3.52.14, as well as being the fastest single and coming 12th overall, beating all the eights!
Oli Knight also showed his class by lowering the J15 singles record by over 20 minutes to 4.12.34
The girls quad just missed out on their record attempt in 4.15.48, whilst the WJ18 four of Holly Jones, Sophie Walker, Julia Clarke and Hannah Traylen set a new best of 4.29.34.
Ian Robinson and Sam Ball showed real determination in completing the gruelling course in their singles in 4.24.14 and 4.56.04
A special thanks too to Brian, Karen, the Tarrants and the Daileys for the driving and bank support, and all the other families who came to watch.
Now the aches and blisters are subsiding, people are already talking about what boat they want to do it in next year!

Our new boathouse has doubled our capacity and we now need more coaches to satisfy demand at all levels from junior and adult beginners through to National and International competition. Enthusiasm is more important than qualifications as you will assisted with your Coach Development and supported by the National Coaching Team of the Year. Walton is a community club, entirely run by volunteers. It has over 50 wins already in the first half of this year, regularly getting medals at events such as National Schools and National Champs, and providing several Great Britain team members every year.

ANGUS 4TH AT JUNIOR WORLDS |
Angus came agonisingly close to a World Championship medal in Racice, Czech Republic when his quad were pipped at the line by Germany, Italy and New Zealand in a fantastic race. He does have the satisfaction of being in the fastest GB junior quad ever as they recorded a stunning 5.58 in the final.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Eastern Europe, Matt Tarrant won the Gold Medal in the men's eights at the World University Championships in Szeged, Hungary to add to his World U23 Bronze
Sam Knight's Great Britain quad scull won a fantastic gold medal at the Coupe de Jeunesse at Hazewinkle, Belgium last week-end. Saturday showed that Hungary, Poland, Netherlands and France as well as GB were all within a length of each other in speed, but in Sunday's final, Sam's crew sculled a brilliant race to win the gold in the very fast time of 6.08.82, just 0.15 secs ahead of Poland in silver.
Attention now turns to the Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic where Walton's Angus Groom goes for GB and his crew have already won their heat to progress to Saturday's semi-finals. Best of luck from the whole club Angus!

WORLD BRONZE FOR MATT
Congratulations to Matt Tarrant, who was in the three seat of the GB eight that won the Bronze medal at the World U23 Championships in Belarus this week. The first three crews pulled away from the field, and in a close finish, Germany got the gold, and USA the silver, just ahead of GB.
This medal adds to Matt's silver from the Junior Worlds in 2008, and he is hoping to make the breakthrough to the Senior Team in the next few years to complete the set!
3 MORE GB REPRESENTATIVES
Sam Knight is competing in the GB quad at the Coupe de Jeunesse in Belgium this week-end.
Angus Groom is in the Junior Worlds quad, and will be competing in Racice, Czech Republic the following week.
Nick de Cata is coaching the Junior Worlds boys coxed four too.
Best of luck to all of them, from everyone at Walton RC

This week we have been granted our new licence to sell alcohol so we are free to open the bar as normal. Until we have completed the new building project what we have on offer will be limited but we intend to open the bar on Sunday lunchtimes and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Members should not attempt to serve themselves without the permission of the Bar Steward and should leave the Clubroom as tidy as possible after use. |

TWO GOLDS AND A BRONZE AT BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS |
The long journey to Strathclyde Park, Glasgow was rewarded for Walton with some fantastic results. Both our winning Nat Schools crews confirmed their dominance at National level.
The J14 double of Harry Gaywood and Oli Knight sculled a very mature race, being completely unfazed by crews that were 3 lengths ahead at half-way. They kept to their race plan and came through the field to win by clear water in a very quick time.
The J15 coxed quad of Andrew Bedford, Harry Lonergan (TSS), Elliot Tarrant, Oli Knight and cox Ross Jones absolutely blitzed their event, and took 5 seconds of the Championship record to win in 6.47.
The seniors were not to be outdone either, with the Elite Lwt Quad of Neil West, Stuart West, Sam Wilson and Sam Lee-Gill getting a bronze, just half a second down in 6.23
There were very creditable 4th places for Sam Ball and Julia Clarke in Women's Junior Pairs and for Holly Jones, Sophie Walker, Hannah Traylen and Sarah Hunt in Women's Elite Lwt Quads. Both these crews will be back for medals next year.

The younger juniors had a great day at Egham. It started rather mixed: the J14B quad beat arch-rivals Windsor Boys but then lost in the final to Henley. The A quad beat Guildford comfortably but then lost by the smallest of margins to Windsor Boys in a very tough race. The J13 girls’ double also lost in the final, while the J13 boys were never comfortable in a badly-rigged boat and lost in their heat to Tideway Scullers, having taken it to the line. The J12 girls fought their first race very well and came off the water quite happy despite losing narrowly.
In the afternoon, though, the J13 boys’ quad of Alexi Buckingham, James Williamson, Manu Passos-Carr and Jordan Piddlesden, with Ross Jones coxing, came through three races very comfortably to win, and Laurie Fain and Harry Gaywood were never seriously challenged, even by a Windsor Boys’ double which was clearly very surprised not to win!

Three Golds at National Masters |
The Walton veteran squad had a good day at the National Masters Regatta held at Nottingham on 13th June, winning three golds and a bronze, with Captain Neil West racing in all the medal crews. Neil and Richard Hosking got the ball rolling winning MC doubles, sculling down Wallingford in the last few strokes. In tough races in the middle of the afternoon the MD quad disappointly missed out on a medal finishing a close fourth, the MD coxless four rowed through for a bronze and the ME coxless four finished a creditable fifth. With most people tripling up fatigue was starting to set in when Neil and Richard together with Mike Everington and Richard Smallman-Smith sculled down Tees in the last few strokes to win MB quads. With just time to swap in Glyn Groom for Mike the crew returned to the start and this time beat Tees by one length to win MC quads. Unfortunately after a generally fine day the weather had deteriorated by the time the IM MD quad raced but a good time was had by all.

Star performer was Ollie Knight who won the J14 1x comfortably and then teamed up with Harry Gaywood to win the J14 2x as well. Elliot and Callum won bronze in J15 2x. Great Results at Kingston Head |
Walton had three good wins at Kingston. Most impressive were the Intermediate coxed four of Adam Shire, Elliott Tarrant, Sam Wilson and Alex Jones who had never rowed together before. They were joined by brand new cox Alexi Buckingham who steered brilliantly to overtake all their opposition and win by a clear margin. The J14 quad also dominated - Fain, Turner, Knight and Atkinson, coxed by Ross Jones were 30 secs ahead of Hampton School in second place.
The Veteran eight also won.
The girls coxed four of Sophie Walker, Annie Withers, Hannah Traylen and Fiona Thiemann, coxed by Kieran Reals were very impressive, coming second in the senior women's class. The girls quad of Holly Jones, April Kirk, Naomi Allberry and Sam Ball also came 2nd. The girls J15 quad were 4th and the J14 quad put in a very determined row to come 3rd. The J14 boys octuple, containing many J13's did well to come to come 8th against some very good school crews.
Walton member Matt Tarrant was also in the Oxford Brookes eight that won the overall head prize, and Lewis Knollman was in the crew that won Intermediate eights too.

David Hosking completes Atlantic Row |
If you haven't seen David for a couple of months, it's because he's been busy rowing across the Atlantic! His Britannia III crew are the first boat in the Woodvale Atlantic Race to cross the finishing line in Barbados, 38 days after setting off from the Canary Islands. They missed the current record for the crossing by a few days due to bad weather and adverse conditions. However you can be sure that it will make David even more determined to have another go at it. So if he asks you if you fancy going out for a row, think very carefully before you answer - he probably doesn't mean up to the canoe club and back!

Walton win National Coaching Team of the Year
Walton's coaching successes over the last year have been recognised with the award of British Rowing's Coaching Team of the Year. The award committee noted that Walton not only consistently produces excellent junior scullers and rowers, many of whom go on the represent Great Britain, but also has made excellent progress in introducing more adult and veteran beginners to the sport and now has waiting lists for most of its squads. Most of the coaching team will be attending the award presentation which is held at the Great Britain senior team trials finals at Dorney Lake.
The full commendation is on the British Rowing web-site: http://www.britishrowing.org/news/british-rowing-coach-year-awards-2009

Great Results at Hampton Junior Head |
Sam Knight and Angus Groom won the junior doubles title in impressive style, and then teamed up in a composite to come second in the quads.
Our next best result came from the youngest girls group who came second in WJ13 quads, less than a second behind the winners.
The older girls also did exceptionally well, with Holly Jones, Sam Ball, Hannah Traylen and Julia Clarke coming second in girls fours, and then teaming up with Sophie Walker, Naomi Allberry, Alice Correiea-Morton, Annie Withers and Joanna Fish to come 5th in the eights.
Our younger boys matched the girls with second place in J13 quads, and 8th in J14 octuples against a very strong field containing most of the top rowing schools.

New building: Its going to be big!! |
After a bit of a delay due to the icy weather the new building is starting to shoot up. There is a fair way to go yet but having a boathouse again seems a lot closer.
NEW BOATHOUSE DEVELOPMENT HAS STARTED
Less than a week after we moved out, most of the old boathouse has been demolished, and work will shortly be starting on laying the foundations and slab for the new two-storey boathouse. Full rowing operations will continue as normal over the Winter, with all boats being stored outside in the compound, and all blades and other equipment in the sculling shed. Temporary changing rooms and a club-room have been installed behind the sculling shed.
